The Royals have placed 27-year old righty starting pitcher Kyle Davies on the 15-day disabled list due to a right shoulder impingement. Davis has pitched in 13 games (all starts) for the Royals so far this year and he is 1-9 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP. He has given up 84 hits and he has walked 26 batters in his first 61 1/3 innings this year. I’m surprised that Davies isn’t on the D.L. with whiplash based on how poorly he has pitched so far this year.

The Kansas City Royals lose Jason Kendall for at least the rest of this season

37-year old righty swinging catcher Jason Kendall has been diagnosed with two tears in his right rotator cuff. He is going to have surgery next week and he will miss the rest of the 2011 season and possibly the whole year in 2012. Kendall has not played 1 inning for the Royals this year. He played in 118 games for the Royals last season and he was 111 for 434 (.256 avg, .615 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 0 homers, 37 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. If this is the end of Jason Kendall’s career, he sure had a nice one. Kendall has played in 2,085 games in his 15 years in the majors and he is 2,195 for 7,627 (.288 avg, .744 OPS) with 1,030 runs scored, 75 homers, 744 RBIs and an amazing 189 stolen bases.

The Royals have placed 23-year old righty starting pitcher Sean O’Sullivan on the 15-day disabled list due to right biceps tendinitis. O’Sullivan has pitched in 11 games (9 starts) for the Royals so far this year and he is 2-5 with a 6.92 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP. He has given up 69 hits and he has already walked 26 batters in his first 53 1/3 innings while only whiffing 18 batters, and that is pathetic. Rookie 23-year old righty Nate Adcock will replace O’Sullivan in the starting rotation. Adcock has pitched in 11 games (2 starts) for the Royals so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 3.77 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. The Royals have called up 27-year old righy reliever Jesse Chavez to replace O’Sullivan on the pitching staff. He has pitched in 19 games (0 starts) so far this year in AAA-ball and he is 2-3 with 5 saves, a 4.94 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. Chavez pitched in 23 games (0 starts) for the Royals last year and he was 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. The Royals hope Chavez is much better this time around.

The Royals have will be without 20-year old lefty starting pitcher John Lamb for all of 2011 and a huge chunk of the 2012 season due to his need for Tommy John Surgery. Lamb came into this season as the Royals’ #4 prospect according to Baseball America. Lamb pitched in 8 games (all starts) in AA-ball for the Royals this year and he was 1-2 with a 3.09 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He has pitched in 50 games (all starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 16-12 with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Lamb has given up 212 hits with only 78 walks in his first 251 1/3 innings in his minor league career and he has 252 whiffs. The Royals have to be disappointed with the news of Lamb’s injury, but they aren’t going to rush him back.

The Royals have placed 27-year old righty starting pitcher Kyle Davies on the 15-day disabled list due to anterior shoulder soreness in his right shoulder. Davies has pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the Royals so far this year and he is 1-6 with a 7.46 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. He has given up 57 hits (6 homers) and he has walked 17 batters in his first 41 innings for the Royals so far this year. The Royals have activated 29-year old righty reliever Robinson Tejada to replace Davies on the pitching staff. Tejada has pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Royals earlier this year and he is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP. The Royals are going to call up 22-year old lefty Danny Duffy when Davies’ spot in the rotation comes up. Duffy is one of the brightest prospects in the Royals’ minor league system. He has pitched in 7 games (all starts) in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. If he does well in his first start, Duffy might get to stick around a while.
