Mike Jacobs was a huge bust for the Kansas City Royals

The Royals thought that they were getting a player capable of whacking 30 homers in Mike Jacobs but he has been a bust. He has played in 126 games for the Royals this year and he is 96 for 425 (.226 avg, .681 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 18 homers and 60 RBIs. Jacobs has also whiffed 131 times this season. The Royals really need to find a new 1B for next year. If it’s Billy Butler then they need to find a new DH.

Luke Hochevar is regressing for the Kansas City Royals

26-year old righty starting pitcher Luke Hochevar is getting worse with experience. That’s not the way things are supposed to work. He has pitched in 24 games (22 starts) for the Royals this season and he is 7-12 with a 6.24 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. He has allowed 163 hits (20 of which are homers) in only 140 innings this season. The Royals need to bring in some veterans next spring and make Hochevar earn a spot in the starting rotation as he was pathetic this year.

The Kansas City Royals will likely take it slowly with Mike Moustakas

21-year old righty swinging 3B Mike Moustakas was the Royals’ #1 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. He played in 129 games in A-ball this year and he was 123 for 491 (.251 avg, .719 OPS) with 66 runs scored, 16 homers, 86 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. The Royals will likely take it slowly with Moustakas as they have Alex Gordon at 3B right now.

29-year old lefty swinging outfielder David DeJesus is having another solid year for the Royals. He has played in 141 games this season and he is 154 for 548 (.281 avg, .782 OPS) with 73 runs scored, 13 homers, 70 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. The Royals have always considered DeJesus to be a poor man’s Johnny Damon but he’s still one of the best players on the team.

Mark Teahan needs to do more at the plate for the Kansas City Royals

Blogged under General, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Tuesday 22 September 2009 at 8:45 pm

28-year old lefty swinging 3B/OF Mark Teahan is one of the most overrated players in all of baseball. He has played in 134 games for the Royals this season and he is 134 for 489 (.274 avg, .739 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 11 homers, 46 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He has also whiffed 118 times this season which is way too many for a hitter like him. In his five years in K.C. his career highs are 78 runs scored, 18 homers and 69 RBIs. For a corner infielder/outfielder those numbers just don’t cut it. They should try to trade him over the winter.
