The Royals have acquired 26-year old lefty swinging outfielder Josh Anderson from the Tigers for some cold, hard cash. Anderson played in 74 games for the Tigers this season and he was 40 for 165 (.242 avg, .597 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 16 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Anderson has now played in 135 games in his major league career and he is 104 for 368 (.283 avg, .700 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 3 homers, 39 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. This was another good move for the Royals as Anderson should help them at some point with his speed.

Joakim Soria is finally 100% healthy and it’s showing on the mound. Soria has pitched in 26 games (0 starts) for the Royals this season and he is 2-0 with 15 saves, a 1.63 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. He has whiffed 35 batters in 27 2/3 innings this season as he’s just shutting down opponents late in games. That is very important because the Royals are not scoring many runs again this season.

The Royals have designated 28-year old righty swinging shortstop Tony Pena for assignment and he deserved it. Pena played in 40 games this season for the Royals and he was 5 for 51 (.098 avg, .250 OPS) with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs. He played in 287 games in his three seasons with the Royals and he was 179 for 785 (.228 avg) with 83 runs scored, 3 homers, 63 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. The Royals won’t miss Pena one bit.
